Why do I need an SR-22?
It is a certification required by the State of Virginia that is usually required if one of the following has happened:
- Unsatisifed Judgement
- Uninsured motor vehicle suspension
- Insurance Monitoring
- Fraudulent Insurance Certification
- Conviction for the following:
- Voluntary or involuntary vehicular manslaughter
- Falsifying records to DMV
- Felony involving a vehicle
- Leaving the scene of an accident involving injury

An SR-22 is added to your insurance policy, similar to an endorsement. There is often very little cost associated with this. The filing is usually required for three years and shows your drivers license information as well as any vehicles in your name. You will be required to maintain limits in the amount of $25,000/$50,000/$20,000.
Failure to file and maintain your SR22 will cause your driving privelege to be suspended and will result in reinstatement fees at the DMV. It is important to make your insurance payment in a very timely manner while your license is under the restriction of an SR22.Back to TopHow do I get an FR-44?
